Over the past months I have been researching different essential oils that will assist and slow down the aging of the skin. One of them is Frankincense which is in our new “MY YOUTH OIL” being launched in November.
The other day I added a few drops of frankincense oil to my bath and that night I slept like a baby. I am a very light sleeper and woke feeling refreshed and revitalised. So the next night I had bath with a few drops of the oil and one of my small dogs Budda drank some of the water out of the bath. That night I let the dogs sleep on the bed as a treat and Budda sleep in the one spot and didn’t move, which is so strange as he is always so active and jumping around lots.
So this lead me to do more research and want to share with you.
Frankincense oil is extracted from the resin of the Boswellia shrub (or tree) by steam distillation. It has a warm rich scent that is slightly lemony. Frankincense is a strong anti-inflammatory that can heal persistent sores and prevents breakdown of surrounding connective tissue. It is used when treating stubborn wounds, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and low back pain.
Frankincense has many uses. It has astringent and restorative properties that make it an excellent ointment for aging skin. It is helpful in the treatment of colds, flu, and other respiratory diseases. It helps regulate breathing and calms coughing spasms. It helps clear the lungs and nasal passages and eases shortness of breath. Frankincense helps strengthen the urinary system, too.
Frankincense is also a good nerve tonic. It calms the mind and is extremely useful in meditation. Use a few drops in a hot bath before bed time to promote a restful night’s sleep.
Frankincense essential oil is used in aromatherapy to uplift the spirit, warm the body, and bring reassurance to anyone lacking self confidence. It can also help break emotional ties to the past. Frankincense is revered as a holy perfume and frequently burned as incense. (The word frankincense means “luxuriant incense”.) When burned, frankincense gives off “trahydro-cannabinole” which is thought to expand the consciousness.
In many cultures, frankincense is burned during labor to promote a calm, focused atmosphere during birth. The Bible mentions frankincense at least 17 times and according to the wise men, it rated right up there with gold and myrrh (see Mathew 2:11 and read about their gifts to baby Jesus).
Frankincense’s fragrance is long lasting and penetrating. Frankincense oil should not be used in large doses or for extended periods of time. If overused, frankincense may causenausea and other bad reactions.
With all this information we are now going to start a BODY RANGE in 2014 and frankincense will be a key essential oil.
