Is your skin looking dull, are fine lines appearing, pigmentation appears darker, skin feels dry?

Do I hear a YES to all of the questions? Then your skin has a build-up of dead skin cells and is in need to a beauty product or treatment to rejuvenate the skin.

Skin cycle:

A skin cycle is the process where a new skin cell is formed at the deepest layer of the epidermis and works its way up to the surface of the skin. At this point the skin cell has matured and ultimately flakes off.  A skin cycle can vary with each individual and is affected by such factors as age, hormones, skin condition/health and stress.

On average a skin cycle is 5-6 weeks. At the age of 19-21, the process can take 14-21 days compared to a middle-aged adult where it is estimated to be 28 days.  As we grow older, this skin cycle slows to about 45-60 days in our 40’s and 50’s. It can further slow to about 60-90 days in our 50’s and 60’s.

Why is this important?

As we age our skin cycle slows down and dead cells accumulate on the surface of skin causing sagging and fine lines and wrinkles. Bacteria can become trapped causing blemishes and breakouts. Discoloured and irregular cells can also become trapped causing spots and discolouration. So, it is important to choose skin care products that can accelerate your cellular turnover and keep fresh new skin cells flourishing to the surface.

When starting a new skin care regime, it is advised to wait approximately 1-3 skin cycles so 6 – 18 weeks to see improved results. This gives the skin care chance to work on making changes to the cell’s health, condition, vitality, and strength. When the outer surface of skin is made of newer skin cells, skin feels softer and looks more vibrant. By maintaining an average 28-day or faster replacement cycle through healthy lifestyle choices and a regular skin care routine that addresses the basics of skin, your skin will appear smoother and more youthful.

Patience is the Key

Be patient with new skin care and give it time to do its job. Cosmeceutical skincare is designed to work on the deeper layers of the skin so immediate results are not always seen. Over the counter skin care works on the surface of your skin, so it may immediately feel soft but long-term benefits will not be comparable.

So, what is the best home care?

Door of Youth –  Botanical Exfoliator With AHA & BHA 100ml.

The double exfoliating action of the Botanical Exfoliator is achieved through AHA and BHA helping to loosen the bonds between dead epidermal cells which are then sloughed away by the Sandalwood and Tea Tree Powder granules. Antioxidant and soothing properties help to protect newly revealed cells leaving the skin with a smooth, refreshed texture and appearance.

Application: After cleansing pat skin dry and massage a small amount of Exfoliator over the entire face in gentle circular motions avoiding the lips and eye area. Can be left on the skin for a minute after massaging in to allow the AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acids) to continue exfoliating. Use a dampened soft cloth or rinse with tepid to cool water to remove all traces of exfoliating granules and until tingling sensations can no longer be felt. The absorption of active ingredients will be enhanced once dead skin cells are removed. Use once a week or as needed.

*Avoid direct sunlight for minimum 6 hours after use. It is common to experience a tingling sensation and mild flushed appearance after use. Remove product if you experience any discomfort. Do not apply to broken skin.

Professional Treatment – Glycolic peel with a microdermabrasion.

Glycolic acid peels slough off the surface and middle layers of skin, removing dead skin cells and debris. Since glycolic acid is made up of small molecules, it readily penetrates skin, removing the lipids that hold dead skin cells together. The percentage of glycolic acid contained in the peel determines how deeply it can penetrate the skin’s layers.

What is microdermabrasion? Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer, and has many benefits. This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat light scarring, discoloration, sun damage and stretch marks.
